It’s Time to Reconsider Winter Break.

After a quick 4-week break, it’s time to get honest and set some expectations for Winter Break–which your girl completely bungled.

Every law school student pushes a million (often important) things off until after break. I was going to finalize my resume, apply to 10 jobs, clean my apartment, exercise, go on vacation…

Then I got hit by the reality of finals. I came off my last final on December 20th, slept until the 22nd, and then absolutely slogged through holidays. By the time I came out of the holidays, it was January 3rd and I was still exhausted and had way too many commitments before school started on the 13th.

My advice comes down to this: “I’m busy”. That is what your attitude should be when scheduling over winter break. You’re still in law school and you still need to prioritize. I made getting my resume done and approved by career services the priority and got it done. However, applying to jobs should have been another priority but in the end, I was stretching myself too thin by spending a lion-share of the time catching up with friends and family. In the end, I went back into second semester exhausted and almost immediately behind in a significantly more technical course load. Don’t make the same mistake. Do your best to protect your time during law school, even if it’s during ‘break’.

Forward and Onward,

Bitsy
