The snow is long melted, but I am still digging out.
A little information on second semester. At Marquette, students take Contracts, Torts, Criminal Law and Writing 1 during their first semester. We then switch to Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Property, and Writing 2. These are the 8 core classes you’ll see at most law schools. I was not prepared for how different the two semesters felt. The coursework for second semester feels much more technical and we really jumped into it. As I mentioned in my last post, I was not rested and ready to go for second semester and that was a huge mistake.
….and then it got worse. Epidemically worse.
The COVID-19 outbreak has had a huge impact on all of our lives and it’s been very strange to navigate as a law school student. I plan on doing a separate post when I get my head around it but here’s the gist of what’s going on. We are learning remotely and there’s no indication yet as to what will happen with grades. Every single one of my friends cannot stand the remote learning. It’s honestly awful. What’s also awful is watching how this is impacting others and will change life as we know it for the foreseeable future. I tend to worry about others before myself, and that is impossible with the feedback we’re getting from the Law School. One of my professors said, “It should be easier, now you have more time to study.” Yikes.
For now, we’re hanging in there and I’m trying to keep perspective. Law school puts you in a bubble where the only important thing in your life is law school, coronavirus has helped me pivot and keep perspective.
